VAN WAGENEN / APPLE TREE HOUSE
JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY

The Van Wagenen House in Jersey City, also known as the Apple Tree House, is a rare surviving house with Revolutionary-era ties in the historic Dutch settlement of Bergen. Built in the Dutch tradition, the house was first constructed in the eighteenth century and has two large nineteenth-century additions. HMR has been contracted by the City of Jersey City to oversee the complete restoration of the house beginning with a Preservation Plan and National Register Nomination followed by design, document and construction services for a phased conversion of the derelict house into a historic museum to be owned and operated by the City.
