The character and scale of the original 18th century stone house was kept intact from the front. A new contemporary addition was added to the rear of the house to take advantage of the sun and views. The second floor was removed from a portion of the old house to open up the stairhall. Natural lighting and the preservation of the original stone construction for thermal mass were key considerations in the expansion of this structure.
