SHORT TERM ACADEMIC HOUSING
INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED STUDY
PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY

The Institute for Advanced Study recognized a need for short term housing for academic guests, whose duration of visits range from overnight to two weeks. The Institute retained HMR to design housing within their existing member housing community. The project consists of 18 one-bedroom housing units and a common building intended for gatherings by users of the units. Housing units are approximately 580 square feet each with a living room, bedroom, bathroom and open pantry/entry area in every unit. The overall design and scale is consistent with the pattern and materials of other housing buildings on the site designed by Marcel Breuer in 1958.
